New To FBC?

First Baptist Church has a friendly, family atmosphere with lots of smiling faces.  We give a special effort in making every person who visits feel comfortable and welcome.  Worship is our priority!  Our Sundays begin with an early service at 8:30am followed by an enriching Bible study in our Sunday School Classes for all ages and our late service follows at 10:50am.  Our Senior Pastor, Dr. Jeff Moore presents a God inspired message of biblical truths and challenges us to apply them to our daily lives.  Brother Jeff also has a time when he invites the children to the altar for "The Mystery Box" for a fun time as he tells a brief 'kids' message derived from an object brought by one of the children each week.

Our blended worship style covers a broad range of music from traditional hymns and southern gospel to contemporary praise and worship songs.  Our minister of music and instrumentalists lead worship in the early service, and the adult choir, praise team, and praise band lead in the late service.

Sunday evenings are very special at First Baptist.  The warm family environment and casual atmosphere is as comfortable as your favorite jeans and t-shirt.  Services begin at 6:00, and we would love for you to join us!

If you are unable to join us on the FBC campus, all of our worship services are broadcast live in Altus on Channel 33 and on KWHW 93.5FM, and 1450AM.

At First Baptist Altus, there is something for everyone!

Maps and Directions

First Baptist Church is located on the East side of N. Main Street on the block between Cypress Street and Elm Street, just one block north of downtown Altus. If you are coming from the South part of Altus, you will go North on Main Street, and the church will be located two blocks past the courthouse on the right side of the street. If you are coming from the north part of Altus, you will drive South on Main Street, passing Tamarack Road and Falcon Road. The church is located on the left side of the street one block past Sutherland Street. The parking lots are located on the North and East sides of the church, and the main building has one entrance on the North side and two main entrances accessible from the East parking lot.

Finding the Sanctuary

The easiest way to locate the sanctuary is to enter the building through the sliding glass doors from the East parking lot. Then proceed to the end of the hall, turning left near the Sunday School booth. Continue down that hall passing the office on your left, and you will see the sanctuary entrance at the top of the stairs.

Finding a Sunday School Class

To find the appropriate Sunday School class for you and/or your children, you will need to stop by the Resource Area, which is located in the corner of the hallway that leads into the sanctuary. A volunteer at the booth will help you figure out the best class for your age and will guide you to the right location.

Finding the Hispanic Mission

The Hispanic Mission meets in the Activity Building, which is in the East parking lot.

How Do I Join?

If you would like to become a member of First Baptist Church, we require that you have trusted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Lord, and that you are baptized after making that decision. After meeting those requirements, you can go to the altar during the invitation of any service and fill out an Application for Membership. You can join by baptism, by letter from another church, or by statement of your faith.

What is Baptism?

Baptism is the act of fully immersing a believer in water. Baptism is not necessary for salvation, but it is necessary for obedience to Christ. It is symbolic of the re-birth and transformation a new Christian experiences, and it makes a public statement of accepting Jesus Christ. Baptism is limited to those who have made a personal commitment to follow Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord. Once you have made that commitment, we welcome you to come forward during an invitation and indicate your desire to participate in believer’s baptism.

How Do I Become a Christian?

Becoming a Christian is easy. There is no magic formula, and no specific prayer. 1Timothy 2:4 says that ”[God] desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

  • Acknowledge that you are a sinner. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” God, in his holiness, cannot look upon sin.
  • Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.” There is nothing you can do apart from believing in Jesus Christ that can restore your relationship with God.
  • Confess your sin to God and accept His forgiveness. Romans 10:9 tells us, “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

You can pray something like this: “God, I confess that I have sinned and broken my relationship with You. I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord, that he died on the cross and was raised from the dead to pay the penalty for my sin. With your help, I want to turn from my sin and accept the grace You are freely offering. Please show me what it means to walk with You.”

If you have prayed and accepted God’s forgiveness, He wants to bless your life and give you amazing peace and joy. The best way to experience the abundant life God has to offer is to spend time with Him through prayer and Bible study, and to spend time with other believers in a Bible-believing church. If we can assist you in locating a church in your area, or if you have questions about salvation, please give us a call at 580-482-0230.
