Ministerial Staff

Dr. Jeff Moore, Senior Pastor
Bro. Jeff and his wife Sharla moved to Altus in April 2002 with their daughters Whitney and Allison.  Originally from Duncan, Oklahoma, Bro. Jeff holds a Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Ministries from Oklahoma Baptist University, a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  He has previously served as pastor of several churches in the region, including Immanuel Baptist Church in Shawnee, OK; Regency Park Baptist Church in Moore OK; Calvary Baptist Church in Lindsay, OK; Martha Road Baptist Church in Martha, OK; and  Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Cleburne, TX.  Besides pasturing the congregation of First Baptist Church Altus, Bro. Jeff enjoys hunting, golf, fishing and he is the accomplished author of
 Till Death Do Us Part: A Minister's Guide to Officiating at Funeral Services.


Carlos Moreno, Spanish Mission Pastor
Bro. Carlos came to First Baptist Altus in 1987 with his wife Lupita and daughters Karla, Priscila, and Lupita. Originating from Mexico, Bro. Carlos holds an accounting degree from the Accounting Institute in Mexico, and a License to Ministry from the Bible Institute in Mexico. Since coming to the United States, Bro. Carlos has attended many conferences and seminars to enhance his ministry at First Baptist. While Bro. Carlos has past experience working as Vice President at a bank in Mexico, as well as owning his own professional brick-laying business, he has served in Christian ministry since coming to Altus. Not only has he worked as a missionary in the state, he has also held multiple pastoral roles at the First Baptist Church Hispanic Mission, of which he is now the full-time pastor. When not serving in his pastoral duties, Bro. Carlos enjoys fishing, picnics, sports, construction work, reading, and playing various musical instruments.                               
                                 
                                 

Rod Smith, Minister of Music
Bro. Rod and his wife Cindy came to First Baptist Altus in 1981 from their hometown of Dallas, Texas. They have two grown children, Natalie Hogan and Benjamin Smith, and five grandchildren. Bro. Rod holds a Bachelor of Arts from Dallas Baptist University, and he studied vocal technique and pedagogy under Christine Palmer for four years. For many years Bro. Rod served as a music evangelist, and he has also served as the minister of music at First Baptist Church, Urbandale in Dallas, TX. Since being called into the music ministry in 1970, Bro. Rod has preached and/or sung in over one thousand revivals, crusades, and concerts.

 

 Mark Brickhouse, Minister of Education/Administration
Mark joined the First Baptist staff in April of 2005. Originally from Texas, Mark earned his Bachelor of Church Music from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, and his Master of Arts in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. Mark married his college sweetheart, Gigi in 1987, and they have two grown daughters, Reagan and Jordan, and a son, Collin, who is in high school. Mark has served in various church positions ranging from Music and Youth, Youth and Education, and Education/Administration in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Some of Mark’s favorites are watching various sporting events, eating Strawberry ice cream and his favorite Bible verse is John 3:16.



Kent Jaggers, Minister to Students
Bro. Kent and his wife Kayla came to Altus in May of 2011. They moved here from Fort Worth, where Kent earned a Masters of Divinity at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Kent grew up in Oklahoma City before going to Oklahoma Baptist University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Ministry. While finishing school and after, Kent served as the Young Adult Pastor and Student Pastor at Grace Place Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Kent is an outdoorsman at heart and loves rock climbing, backpacking, fishing, hunting, soccer, and golf.



Alga Hitchcock, Prayer Ministry Director
Alga developed the Intercessory Prayer Ministry at First Baptist in 1983 and has been the director ever since. The Prayer Ministry was the dream of her late husband Thurman Hitchcock and hers for many years. Alga has a son John and three grandsons, Richard, Andrew, and Timothy. Originally from Elizabethton, Tennessee, Alga attended Carson-Newman College, Multnomah School of Business, Western Oklahoma State College, and Oklahoma University. She has been an employee of two state conventions, a national consultant for religious education, and has worked in several mission studies and intercessory prayer ministries. Alga has been a published writer since her high school days, and she still enjoys reading and writing.

 

Joyce Russell, Preschool/Children’s Director
Joyce Russell has been employed by the First Baptist Church for over 15 years. For most of this time, she has worked in the Preschool & Children’s Department, but also worked as the Administrator’s Assistant, joining the church as a full-time staff member in 2006. The majority of her lifetime employment experience has been working with a variety of children, teaching and guiding them at various stages of development. For over 20 years, Joyce has attended many classes and conferences pertaining to children, seeking to build upon her skills. Prior to her position at First Baptist Church, Joyce worked for more than seven years as a preschool teacher at Holly Berry Playschool. She and her husband of 31 years, Buck Russell, have 2 grown children. Reesey, 26, is an Emergency Room nurse, currently working at JCMH, and Blain, 23, is employed at Stillwater National Bank and is obtaining a degree in business in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Joyce enjoys spending time with family and friends in her free time.

 

Doug Altom, Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care/Evangelism
Doug Altom came on staff in September, 2011. He and his wife Jayme, along with their three children, Ali, Jasper, and Ethan, have been members of First Baptist since August 2007. Doug is a graduate of Western Oklahoma State College and of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned a Diploma of Theology and an Advanced Diploma of Theology. He previously served as pastor at First Baptist Church of Olustee, and as the interim pastor of First Baptist Church of Headrick, Oklahoma. He grew up in Blair Oklahoma and later on was very active in the single adult ministry at First Baptist Church Altus. Prior to going into full-time ministry, Doug worked in the land title business both here in Altus and in Fort Worth, Texas. Doug enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, his extended family of nine brothers and sisters, and his church family. He also gets excited about searching for information on his family tree and checking out antique stores.
