Bro. Jeff and his wife Sharla moved to Altus in April 2002 with their daughters Whitney and Allison. Originally from Duncan, Oklahoma, Bro. Jeff holds a Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Ministries from Oklahoma Baptist University, a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has previously served as pastor of several churches in the region, including Immanuel Baptist Church in Shawnee, OK; Regency Park Baptist Church in Moore OK; Calvary Baptist Church in Lindsay, OK; Martha Road Baptist Church in Martha, OK; and Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Cleburne, TX. Besides pastoring the congregation of First Baptist Church Altus, Bro. Jeff enjoys hunting, golf, fishing and he is the author of Till Death Do Us Part: A Minister's Guide to Officiating at Funeral Services.
Doug Altom came on staff in September, 2011. He and his wife Jayme, along with their three children, Ali, Jasper, and Ethan, have been members of First Baptist since August 2007. Doug is a graduate of Western Oklahoma State College and of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned a Diploma of Theology and an Advanced Diploma of Theology. He previously served as pastor at First Baptist Church of Olustee, and as the interim pastor of First Baptist Church of Headrick, Oklahoma. He grew up in Blair Oklahoma and later on was very active in the single adult ministry at First Baptist Church Altus. Prior to going into full-time ministry, Doug worked in the land title business both here in Altus and in Fort Worth, Texas. Doug enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, his extended family of nine brothers and sisters, and his church family. He also gets excited about searching for information on his family tree and checking out antique stores.
Jay has served on staff at First Baptist Church since December 2013. Jay was called to ministry in 1983, received his Bachelor of Music from Oklahoma Baptist University and his Master of Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Some of Jay's musical background includes performing with the Bison Glee Club of OBU, the Consort Singers and Men's Chorus of SWBTS, the Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma and in 1986 he was a finalist for the Midwest Regional Finals of the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions. Jay is also a percussionist, drummer and has performed with such notable Christian artists as Dennis Jernigan, Steven Curtis Chapman and Joel Engle. Jay loves to write about worship and some of his writings have been published in the Ultimate Idea Book for Music Ministry. Jay and his beautiful wife Jana have two precious daughters, Jaycee and Jenna. Life Verse: "Be strong and courageous. Mark joined the First Baptist staff in April of 2005. Originally from Texas, Mark earned his Bachelor of Church Music from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, and his Master of Arts in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. Mark married his college sweetheart, Gigi in 1987, and they have three grown children, Reagan and Jordan, and a son, Collin. Mark has served in various church positions ranging from Music and Youth, Youth and Education, and Education/Administration in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Some of Mark’s favorites are watching various sporting events, eating Strawberry ice cream and his favorite Bible verse is John 3:16.
Andrew and his wife Amber came to Altus in January of 2016. Originally from Mississippi, Andrew holds a Bachelor of Science in Communications from William Carey University and a Masters of Divinity in Missiology from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He enjoys spending time with students, reading, playing ping-pong, and all things coffee. He longs for each student at FBC to find their place in the mission of God. Andrew’s prayer for the students of FBC is that they would, “be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.” Colossians 1:9-10
Bro. Carlos came to First Baptist Altus in 1987 with his wife Lupita and daughters Karla, Priscila, and Lupita. Originating from Mexico, Bro. Carlos holds an accounting degree from the Accounting Institute in Mexico, and a License to Ministry from the Bible Institute in Mexico. Since coming to the United States, Bro. Carlos has attended many conferences and seminars to enhance his ministry at First Baptist. While Bro. Carlos has past experience working as Vice President at a bank in Mexico, as well as owning his own professional brick-laying business, he has served in Christian ministry since coming to Altus. Not only has he worked as a missionary in the state, he has also held multiple pastoral roles at the First Baptist Church Hispanic Mission, of which he is now the full-time pastor. When not serving in his pastoral duties, Bro. Carlos enjoys fishing, picnics, sports, construction work, reading, and playing various musical instruments.
Joyce Russell has been employed by the First Baptist Church since August 1996. For most of this time, she has worked in the Preschool & Children’s Department, but also worked as the Administrator’s Assistant, joining the church as a full-time staff member in 2006. The majority of her lifetime employment experience has been working with a variety of children, teaching and guiding them at various stages of development. For over 20 years, Joyce has attended many classes and conferences pertaining to children, seeking to build upon her skills. Prior to her position at First Baptist Church, Joyce worked for more than seven years as a preschool teacher at Holly Berry Playschool. She and her husband, Buck Russell, have 2 grown children. Reesey is an RN, currently working at North Texas State Hospital, and Blain is employed at Stillwater National Bank as Branch Manager. Joyce enjoys spending time with family and friends in her free time.
Tina joined First Baptist Church as Church Treasurer in 2006. She serves as the financial officer, responsible for maintaining business integrity in both financial and legal matters, administrating the church’s bank accounts and corporate insurance policies, and the preparation and reporting of financial reports to the Financial Committee and then to the church body. Before her employment with the church, Tina was the Human Resource Coordinator with Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Tina and Joe have two children, Tara and Heath. They are blessed with five beautiful grandchildren, Tessa, Kyra, Tatum, Karis and Tyler.
Martha Becerra has served on staff as Education Assistant and Church Clerk for over 27 years. Martha and her husband Eddie were married on August 29, 1968 have been blessed with a wonderful son Brandon, a loving daughter-in-law Holly plus 2 beautiful grandchildren, Collin and Amberley who are all active members of Altus FBC. God has blessed Martha in the gift of writing several unpublished Christians plays and skits, as well as acting and directing for 35 years, including the Judgement House Evangelistic Ministry for 15 years. Since 2006 Martha has served as the Senior Adult Ministry Director. Martha and Eddie enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren as well as serving others as God leads. Favorite Scripture: Psalm 46:10 (NIV) “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Cynthia first came to Altus as a military 'brat' where she met her husband. She and Gerrid were married in 1987 and have three grown children and one grand-daughter. Loren and husband Michael along with daughter Avery, Austin and wife Jordan, and Kristen. Cynthia loves spending time with her family and working with children. She also loves home DIY projects. She joined the staff here in 2009.
Jayme joined First Baptist Church as Student Ministry Assistant in August 2014.
Kaycee is a native of Altus, OK. She graduated from Navajo High School in 2010 and attended Western Oklahoma State College while interning with the youth ministry at FBC Altus. After graduating from Western in 2012, she attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University where she received a Bachelor's in Exercise Science. For the past 4 years, she has been in Wake Forest, NC attending Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. In May 2018, she graduated with a Masters of Arts in Ministry to Women and is honored to be serving at FBC Altus again. She is passionate about the local church and discipling college girls. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, exploring new coffee shops, spending time with family and friends, and watching The Office.
