Prayer Ministry
First Baptist Church believes in the power of prayer. The Intercessory Prayer Ministry is an important part of our church. The Prayer Room is staffed around the clock by volunteers who pray for one hour each week. All requests submitted to the prayer office are placed on the prayer request list as appropriate and are prayed over by each intercessor. Many intercessors also write encouraging notes to those for whom they pray.
From 1992 through 2005 we had over 18,000 requests and 216,844 prayergrams were sent. So far this year we have 540 requests and 7600 prayergrams have been sent. We are averaging 120 requests and 1688 prayergrams per month.
The prayer office is also involved in other types of ministries as well. Each year the prayer office organizes Samaritan’s Purse and supports the Angel Tree, as well as cooperates with the Jackson County Ministerial Alliance. We aid other churches that are starting prayer ministries upon request. Alga Hitchcock, our prayer ministry director, is a consultant for prayer ministries for Oklahoma Baptists.
