Altus is a unique city of agriculture mixed with military. In the midst of wheat and cotton fields rests Altus Air Force Base. With a population of around 30,000, this southwest Oklahoma city is considered an offical Oklahoma Main Street Community, and indeed most of Altus’ personality resides on Main Street itself. Downtown Altus boasts a charming boutique district centered around the Jackson County Courthouse. You’ll find a selection of antiques, vintage jewelry, eclectic gifts, name-brand apparel, and children’s clothing in some of the local shops. Also within walking distance of the courthouse are several restaurants, a vintage movie theatre, law and dental offices, and even a dance studio. You won’t want to miss browsing for fine jewelry or sipping your favorite espresso while downtown either.
